The Charlotte Regional Business Alliance is hosting our first Advocacy in Action of 2025. We are convening North Carolina legislative leaders – Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger and Speaker of the House Destin Hall – for a discussion on the 2025 legislative session. We will hear the leaders’ perspectives on the workforce, tax climate, transportation infrastructure, and other priorities for the year.
North Carolina Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger:
Berger was first elected to the state Senate in 2000. He was elected by his colleagues to be minority leader in 2004, and president pro tempore in 2010, becoming the first Republican leader of the North Carolina Senate in more than 100 years. Berger will begin serving as president pro tempore for a 14th consecutive year, making him the longest-serving legislative leader in the country. He lives in Eden in Rockingham County.
North Carolina Speaker of the House Destin Hall:
Hall is beginning his first term as speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives. Hall will be the youngest speaker for the North Carolina General Assembly in 200 years. He was elected to the House in 2016 and appointed to serve as chairman of the North Carolina House Rules Committee in 2021. He is a native and resident of Lenoir in Caldwell County.
